How to Incorporate Dark Bathroom Designs in a New Bathroom

The white bathroom has been a beloved classic for literally hundreds of years. Shiny white tiles, white bath, white walls – a neutral colour scheme that is easy to decorate. But what if (like a growing number of people planning bathroom renovations in Ipswich) you want something a little more bespoke? Something edgier and with a touch more “wow!” factor. A Dark Bathroom Designs excellent method for adding modern glamour to a bathroom is to incorporate some dark colours into the design.

But when it comes to dark bathroom ideas bathroom with a darker colour palette, many people are unsure how to get started. They like the concept but worry that it will be too dark, too overwhelming or too hard to decorate.

In Dark Bathroom Designs, the trick is to use a balanced approach and incorporate some simple design tricks, such as:

1. Add Drama with Dark Paint

Paint is a fantastic way to add darker colours to a new bathroom because it allows you to include as little or as much as you like. You could start with a dark feature wall behind a white bathtub which will create excellent contrast. Alternatively, consider including a dark painted ceiling. This will make the ceiling seem lower, creating a cosier and more intimate feel for the bathroom. If you want something a little more subtle, try adding some dark accents instead by painting the door or the window frames.

2. Include Dark Custom Cabinetry

If your bathroom is predominantly lighter colours, including some dark custom cabinetry is an excellent way to add a statement feature. Custom made cabinets allow you a greater level of personalisation, so you can create something that fits with the space while still standing out as unique. A great example of this was seen in the 2020 series of The Block when Harry and Tash paired black custom made cabinets with black tapware for their Master Ensuite.

3. Look for Black Fittings

Black fittings have become increasingly popular in recent years, and it’s easy to see why – they look sensational without being overbearing. Many bathroom renovations in Ipswich are including black tapware and black showerheads instead of the more traditional stainless steel or chrome fittings. Another popular trend from the 2020 season of The Block was the use of black bathtubs. Sarah and George opted for a bath that was black on the outside with a contrasting white interior, while Jasmin and Luke chose a stunning solid black freestanding bath for their Master Ensuite.

4. Incorporate Patterned Tiles

Patterned tiles are another trend that we’re seeing a lot more of, providing an excellent opportunity to add darker colours into a new bathroom design. Many patterned tiles use a black and white contrasting arrangement, which looks great as either a floor tile or as a feature tile on the walls. In smaller bathrooms, dark patterned tiles are often combined with a feature wall of plain white to ensure the room doesn’t feel too dark.

5. Pair with Dark Coloured Accessories

When you think of neutral accessories, many people think of lighter colours such as white or cream. However, black and grey are also neutral colours, making them fantastic for accessorising a new bathroom. To include darker coloured accessories for your new bathroom, consider adding dark towels, a mirror with a decorative black frame or oversized black and white photo prints for display as artwork on the walls.
